Terms of Use

What Northwind is

Northwind is a voice application for founders: you talk, it listens, remembers what you tell it, and responds — including pushing back. It is a thinking tool and a confidant.

What Northwind is not

Northwind is not therapy, medical care, or professional advice of any kind — legal, financial, or clinical. It does not diagnose or treat anything. Its responses are generated by software and can be wrong. Decisions you make remain yours. If you are in crisis, contact a human: in the US, call or text 988; elsewhere, see our safety page or contact local emergency services.

Eligibility

You must be 16 or older, which the app asks you to confirm the first time you open it. There is no account: no sign-up, no password, and nothing to keep to yourself. Everything the app holds lives on your device, and you can delete all of it from inside the app at any time.

Free use and memberships

Your first conversation is free, and every month includes 20 free minutes of conversation. Beyond that, Northwind offers two auto-renewing monthly memberships, billed through your Apple account: Northwind (US$19.99/month, four hours of conversation a month, with a free first week where the App Store offers it) and Northwind Plus (US$49.99/month, fifteen hours a month). Local prices are set by the App Store. A membership renews automatically until cancelled in your App Store settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple’s standard in-app purchase terms apply; manage, upgrade, downgrade or cancel any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Allowances are never enforced mid-conversation: a conversation that crosses your allowance finishes in full.

Your words stay yours

You own everything you say to Northwind. You grant Alan Yang, trading as Northwind, only the narrow license needed to operate the service for you — transcribe, process and respond. We claim no other rights, and our Privacy Policy commitments (the AI services that process each turn are named there; we never train on your words and never have humans review them) are incorporated into these terms.

The covenant

If Northwind is acquired or shut down, you get an export window and then your data is destroyed. Your conversations will not be an asset in any transaction. This clause survives any change of control.

Acceptable use

Don’t use Northwind to break the law, to harm others, or to probe or disrupt the service. We may limit or block usage that does — there are no accounts to suspend, so limits apply per device. A membership covers ordinary personal use within its stated conversation allowance — a human talking through their day. Automated, scripted, or resold usage isn’t that, and we may limit it.

Disclaimers & liability

The service is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alan Yang’s total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.

Changes

If we change these terms we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Continued use after that is acceptance.
